When you’re getting into natural ingredients it’s hard to keep up with which ingredients you should stay far away from and which you’d just rather not have contact with.

Dornee’s natural cosmetics make sure to only use safe and effective ingredients in all of our products. We do the research and then supply you with the best facial and body products that your skin wants and needs. Risk-free. One health risk we stay away from when whipping together our natural cosmetics is Phthalate. Let’s have a look at what Phthalates are, why they are harmful and why we use Phthalate-free fragrances in all of our products.

Why Phthalates are Harmful

Phthalates are used to soften vinyl plastic and can be found in products like shower curtains. It’s also used in cosmetics like shampoos, soaps and colognes. So why do we want to stay away from phthalates? Well, for one thing, they’ve been shown to be anti-androgenic, which means they decrease levels of testosterone, a hormone present in both men and women, but more dominant in men.

Phthalates can also be passed down to the fetus in pregnant women causing  neurodevelopment and neurobehavioral issues. This can create learning disabilities and behavior issues in the child. Phthalates have also been shown to irritate skin, and have been connected to cancer.

No thank you. Makes sense why in the European Union they’ve banned all forms of Phthalate in cosmetics, no questions asked.

Why We Use Phthalate-Free Fragrances in Our Products

While we absolutely love essential oils and include these aromatic remedies in all of our products, we’ve also decided to add safe phthalate-free fragrances as well. That’s because most essential oils, while extremely aromatic, like lavender oil, don't have a long lasting lifeline. In order to ensure all of our products smell delicious (because we all know how much we love that!) we've added safe phthalate-free fragrances to our products. This way, when you adorn your skin with say, our Black Pepper & Sandalwood Body Lotion you really get to enjoy each and every use.
